A new claim about the possible parole of Yolanda Saldívar has once again placed the woman convicted of murdering Selena Quintanilla in 1995 in the spotlight.

José Vizcalla, who identifies himself as Saldívar’s spokesperson and close friend, claimed that she received a letter concerning her status with parole authorities.

The claim has raised questions because the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied her application in March 2025 and scheduled her next review for March 2030.

For now, there is no official confirmation that Saldívar has been authorized to leave prison or that Texas has formally moved her review to an earlier date.

“She received a letter from the Parole Department because they denied her release in 2025, but the law changed on July 8, 2025. Now she has received a letter,” Vizcalla told “De Primera Mano.”

“Before, she had to wait four years before she could see an officer who could grant her parole. Now the law has changed, and they could tell her ‘you’re free’ at any moment,” he added.

Vizcalla claimed that he has maintained a “very close friendship” with Yolanda Saldívar since 2023, after first contacting her by email and later beginning to visit her.

“I met her, we became friends, and I visit her,” he explained about his relationship with the former nurse and former president of Selena’s fan club.

The Letter Does Not Mean Yolanda Saldívar Will Be Released

Vizcalla himself acknowledged that the alleged communication is not a release order and does not guarantee that Saldívar will leave prison soon.

“This letter she received does not guarantee that she’s getting out, but they denied her release in March 2025,” he said while discussing the case.

Rules currently published by the Texas Board indicate that when parole is denied under certain categories, another review may be scheduled after the first anniversary and before the fifth anniversary of the denial.

However, the official information released specifically about Saldívar established March 2030 as her next review date, meaning any change would require confirmation from authorities.

 

Texas Denied Yolanda Saldívar’s Parole in 2025

The Board denied Saldívar’s parole on March 27, 2025, after reviewing her case file and completing the corresponding process.

Authorities based the decision on the violent nature of the crime and determined that Saldívar continued to pose a threat to public safety.

Saldívar is serving a life sentence for Selena’s murder and became eligible to apply for parole for the first time after serving approximately 30 years in prison.

The decision is made by a three-member panel of the Texas Board, with at least two favorable votes required to grant parole.

Selena’s Murder Shocked Millions

Selena Quintanilla died on March 31, 1995, after being shot during a meeting with Yolanda Saldívar at a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The singer suffered severe blood loss after the bullet damaged an artery, an injury that ultimately caused her death at only 23 years old.

Saldívar was convicted of murder in October 1995 and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of applying for parole after three decades.

Thirty years later, any possibility of her release continues to attract enormous attention, but until Texas officially announces a change, March 2030 remains the publicly established date of her next review, according to Univisión and the magazine Quién.
