A Washington, D.C., teen was arrested and charged with 69 counts after a shooting at a bus stop left five people injured.
Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Anthony Del Cid-Morales.
The District of Columbia U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges on May 22.
The charges include assault with intent to kill while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and aggravated assault while armed.
The case is connected to an incident that occurred on January 22 on a city bus in Washington.
According to authorities, the attack happened after an alleged sexual assault against a minor inside the public transit vehicle.
Investigators say the suspect opened fire on passengers and people who were near a bus stop.
Five people suffered gunshot wounds.
All survived with minor injuries.
Prosecutors Point to Sexual Assault Before the Shooting
According to USA TODAY, prosecutors said Del Cid-Morales allegedly sexually assaulted a young woman at around 5:40 p.m. inside the bus.
The incident allegedly led to a physical altercation between the two.
Authorities said the young woman and a group of friends got off the bus through the rear exit.
The stop was located at the intersection of 16th Street NW and Missouri Avenue NW in northwest Washington.
Meanwhile, Del Cid-Morales allegedly got off through the front of the vehicle.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, when the suspect got off the bus, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and cocked the weapon.
He then allegedly fired five times at a group of approximately 15 people who were near the stop.
After the shots were fired, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Authorities launched an investigation that ended with his arrest and the filing of multiple charges against him.
Minors Were Among the Victims

Prosecutors reported that five people were injured during the armed attack.
Among the victims were three people who were accompanying the alleged sexual assault victim.
Also injured were a passenger waiting for the bus to return home and another person who was walking through the area.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the injured included one woman, two girls, and two boys.
Authorities said all the victims were conscious and breathing when emergency crews arrived.
They were later taken to local hospitals for medical care.
Prosecutors said they all survived with minor injuries.
The Washington bus stop shooting has raised concern over gun violence in public spaces and the use of firearms in the city’s public transportation system.
Washington Bus Stop Shooting Suspect Will Remain Detained Until New Hearing
According to court records, Del Cid-Morales was denied release on bond.
The decision was made during a hearing held on May 22.
Authorities also refused to set bond for him while the legal process moves forward.
The defendant is scheduled to return to court in July for a detention hearing.
USA TODAY reported that it attempted to contact the Washington, D.C., Public Defender Service for comment on the case.
So far, no public statements from the defendant’s defense team have been released.
The investigation into the Washington bus stop shooting remains open as authorities continue reviewing the facts surrounding the attack.
