Trump Warns He Will Send the Army and Marines to U.S. Cities “Without Thinking Twice”

President Donald Trump reaffirmed his readiness to mobilize troops within the United States, stating that he would use the Army and Marines “without thinking twice” if necessary.
In an interview on 60 Minutes, the president said he is prepared to invoke the Insurrection Act, which allows for the deployment of military forces in U.S. cities.
Trump noted that he has not yet exercised that power but emphasized that the option remains open amid what he considers a growing internal security crisis.
“If I needed to, I could mobilize the Army, the Marines — whoever I wanted,” he declared. “I haven’t done it yet, but I hope people give me credit for that.”
Military Deployment and Immigration Crackdown
The president also ordered the deployment of the National Guard to five key cities: Los Angeles, Washington, Portland, Chicago, and Memphis.
According to federal officials, the goal is to strengthen surveillance in response to rising protests and unrest, as well as to support operations by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

Trump defended the recent immigration raids as a “necessary” policy to remove those who, in his words, “endanger the country’s safety.”
“You have to get people out,” he insisted, justifying ICE’s actions in communities across the nation.
Mass Raids and Affected Communities
However, the ICE raids have sparked controversy for targeting people without criminal records, including essential workers and long-term US residents.
Among those detained are gardeners, construction workers, nannies, farm laborers, and relatives of US military service members.
Civil organizations have denounced the raids as human rights violations that foster a climate of fear in entire communities, where many immigrants now avoid hospitals, schools, and public spaces for fear of arrest.
Despite widespread criticism, Trump maintained that ICE operations should continue — and even expand.
Presidential Justification and Public Response
The president justified his actions by claiming that “many of the immigrants being targeted are murderers and criminals.”
However, ICE’s own data shows that a large portion of deportees do not have serious criminal records.
Political analysts warn that Trump’s rhetoric aims to project an image of authority and energize his conservative voter base.
Meanwhile, mayors and local leaders in the affected cities have urged restraint and respect for state autonomy, fearing that a military intervention could escalate social tensions, according to CBS News.
