According to USA TODAY, an art installation portraying Donald Trump and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in a pose inspired by the movie Titanic appeared this week on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., generating strong reactions because of its political message.

The statue was placed with the United States Capitol as a backdrop.

The artwork was presented as a form of political expression through art.

The installation includes visual elements and messages referencing the past relationship between the two men.

Trump-Epstein sculpture recreates a scene inspired by Titanic

The Trump-Epstein statue stands about 3.6 meters (around 12 feet) tall.

The sculpture shows Epstein standing at the bow of a ship with his arms extended.

Behind him, Trump appears holding his wrists.

The scene imitates the well-known pose of Jack and Rose from the film Titanic.

In the original cinematic scene, the characters embrace at the front of the ship.

Parts of the installation were spray-painted gold.

The Trump-Epstein sculpture was placed on the National Mall in a position that allows viewers to see it with the U.S. Capitol in the background.

The artwork was unveiled Tuesday, March 10.

The project was created by a group called The Secret Handshake.

According to reports, the collective describes itself as a small citizen organization.

The group says it uses art and humor as tools to promote political discourse.

Installation includes banners and an explanatory plaque

The name refers to the famous line from the movie Titanic.

In the original scene, the character Jack shouts:

“I’m the king of the world!”

A plaque placed on the side of the statue includes a description of the project.

The text references the love story between Jack and Rose in the film.

It also mentions luxury travel, scandalous parties, and secret nudity.

The plaque says the statue aims to represent the connection between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.

In addition to the sculpture, the installation includes ten large banners.

The banners display a photograph of Trump and Epstein.

The printed message reads:

“Let’s make America safe again.”

The banners also display the insignia of the United States Department of Justice.

However, the word “Justice” is crossed out.

White House criticizes the installation

Spokesperson Abigail Jackson addressed the installation in a statement to USA Today.

Jackson condemned the display and questioned the purpose of the artwork.

She also asked when “wealthy Democratic donors” would create sculptures about Democratic politicians.

The spokesperson also referenced individuals who continued requesting money and meetings with Epstein after his conviction as a sex offender.

The installation is not the first project of this type created by the group.

The organization The Secret Handshake previously installed another statue involving Trump and Epstein.

That earlier artwork appeared on the National Mall in September.

The previous sculpture depicted the two billionaires holding hands and jumping together.

That installation was presented during September, known as Friendship Month.

The new project once again uses art as a form of political commentary in one of Washington’s most visible public spaces.
