- Republican Party under pressure
The political influence of Donald Trump was once again evident within the Republican Party.
The president of the United States celebrated the results of the Republican primaries held on May 19 in six states.
Pennsylvania, Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, and Oregon held internal elections to determine candidates ahead of the November elections.
Trump used his Truth Social network to boast about the political outcome of the day.

“I support President Trump, 100%,” the president wrote after the results became known.
The Republican primaries take place between March and September, according to EFE.
The process will determine the candidates who will compete in the midterm elections on November 3.
In those elections, the entire House of Representatives and part of the Senate will be renewed.
Trump strengthens internal control

The internal elections are showing the political weight Trump continues to hold among Republican voters.
One of the most notable cases was Congressman Thomas Massie.
The lawmaker lost in Kentucky to Ed Gallrein.
Massie had been a constant target of public criticism from the American president.
Trump even called him an “obstructionist” and “stupid.”

The congressman had become an uncomfortable figure for the White House.
For years, he voted against official Republican Party positions in Congress.
He also gained notoriety for pushing the law that forced the government to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
His defeat is interpreted as another political blow driven by Trump within the party.
The Republican “revenge tour”
Massie’s defeat adds to other recent losses by Republicans critical of the president.
One of the most significant cases was Senator Bill Cassidy.
The lawmaker voted in favor of convicting Trump during the 2021 impeachment trial.
That process was related to the Capitol attack.
Cassidy lost the Louisiana primaries to Julia Letlow.
The candidate had direct backing from the president.
In the United States, some sectors are already describing this strategy as Trump’s “revenge tour.”
At the beginning of May, several Republicans in Indiana were also defeated.
The lawmakers had opposed the presidential order to redraw electoral districts in favor of the Republican Party.
The defeats reflect the political cost of confronting the president within the party.
Republican primaries in Texas will be the next major test
The next major Republican primary event will be Texas on May 26.
Trump has already made clear his support for Ken Paxton for a Senate seat.
The endorsement came after weeks of pressure from the Republican conservative wing.
Despite the president’s popularity problems, his internal influence remains strong.
Some polls, including one from CNN, place his disapproval rating between 60% and 65%.
The surveys also anticipate possible Republican losses in the House of Representatives.
Additionally, projected Senate results are generating concern within the party.
However, Trump continues to demonstrate the ability to mobilize Republican voters.
“Never doubt President Trump and his political power,” Steven Cheung, White House communications director, wrote on X.
So far, the Republican primaries are sending a strong message.
Politically confronting Trump within the Republican Party can have electoral consequences.
The big question will be whether candidates backed by the president will strengthen or weaken the party in November.
The answer will come in the November 3 midterm elections.
