Trump Plans Changes in ICE Amid Frustration Over Unmet Goals

- Internal Changes in ICE Proposed by Trump
- Unmet Arrest Target
- Tensions Within the Trump Administration
President Donald Trump’s administration is considering new adjustments at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) due to growing dissatisfaction over the low number of immigration arrests, according to four sources familiar with internal discussions.
The White House set an early-year target of 3,000 daily arrests — a figure seen as ambitious even by the agency’s toughest standards.
However, despite expanded operations and deployments, ICE has not reached that goal, causing frustration among senior government officials and widening tensions with the White House.

As a result, leadership changes are reportedly being prepared across field offices. At least a dozen directors could be replaced, the sources indicated.

ICE operates 25 field offices across the country, and the Trump administration is evaluating each one’s performance based on arrest results, which could lead to changes.
In a statement, Tricia McLaughlin, spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said the government “remains focused on achieving results and removing criminal and violent illegal aliens from this country,” though she did not confirm any personnel movements.

Since President Trump ordered accelerated deportations after taking office, ICE has found itself in the middle of a political crossfire.
Within the administration, some believe the agency has not acted with enough rigor, while lawmakers and immigrant advocates accuse it of overstepping its authority.
The debate has sparked deep social polarization.
In several cities, entire communities have reacted angrily to the raids, organizing protests and blockades to prevent arrests.
Tensions have also spread within law enforcement ranks, where some ICE agents have reported difficulties meeting goals without additional support.
To strengthen operations, the Department of Homeland Security has enlisted Border Patrol agents, deploying them to various regions across the country.
These agents have been involved in controversial operations that led to confrontations with protesters and increased criticism over the use of aggressive tactics under the Trump ICE reforms.
