• Possible Tropical Storm Arthur
  • Rain Causes Flooding
  • Storm Threatens the Gulf

The threat of a new weather phenomenon is keeping the coasts of Texas and Louisiana under watch, where a developing system could become Tropical Storm Arthur in the coming hours.

The system known as Potential Tropical Cyclone One has not yet developed a defined structure, but it is already causing adverse conditions with heavy rain and wind gusts that have affected coastal areas.

Since Wednesday morning, winds above 64 km/h have been recorded, although the system still does not show a clear circulation that would confirm its immediate evolution.

Despite this uncertainty, authorities are keeping alerts active due to the risk that the phenomenon could strengthen as it moves toward more open waters of the Gulf.

Regardless of whether the system manages to consolidate into a storm, the main danger is already being felt in the form of intense rainfall that threatens to cause serious flooding.

The National Hurricane Center warned of extremely heavy rain and possible flash flooding that could put entire communities at risk.

Forecasts indicate rainfall accumulations of between 5 and 10 inches, with isolated areas that could reach close to 20 inches before Friday.

These conditions have already had consequences, including one reported death in Montgomery County, reinforcing the urgency of the warnings.

Mixed Conditions for Strengthening

The system’s development depends on environmental factors that are showing mixed signals, keeping uncertainty around its final intensity.

On one hand, warm waters near 29 degrees Celsius favor the formation of the phenomenon, while other elements could limit its growth.

Wind shear and the limited time the system would remain over open waters are factors that could prevent it from gaining greater strength.

There is even a possibility that it may never become a formal storm, although current conditions justify constant monitoring throughout the region.

Wide Area Under Watch Through the Weekend

Tropical storm alerts extend from Texas to Louisiana, including key points such as Sabine Pass and Morgan City, where the greatest impact is expected.

Preventive advisories also remain in effect across several parts of the South, while the system slowly moves toward land between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

The strongest gusts could be concentrated between Galveston Bay and central Louisiana, increasing the risk of coastal flooding.

Although the name Arthur still depends on its evolution, the system’s impact is already a reality for millions of people along the Gulf Coast, according to Fox Weather.
