Target agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit that could result in direct payments to thousands of people in the United States.
The settlement stems from allegations that the company failed to provide key salary information in job postings in Washington, according to information published by The Mirror US.
Although the company did not admit any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to avoid a prolonged legal process.
Now, many people could receive an unexpected check through the Target $1,711 settlement checks agreement.
Why will Target send checks?
The lawsuit alleged that Target omitted details about pay ranges, wages, and benefits in its job listings. This would have violated Washington state’s Equal Pay and Opportunities Act.
The lack of transparency was at the center of the class action claim. The case was closely followed by labor rights advocacy organizations.
In parallel, Target implemented internal changes to improve the customer experience. Among them, a new requirement for staff to maintain eye contact and greet customers with a smile.

Who qualifies to receive the Target payment?
Those who applied for a job at Target in Washington between January 1, 2023, and July 26, 2025, may be eligible. The company’s employment records will be used to verify eligibility.
Receiving a settlement notice indicates that Target has already confirmed that condition. No additional proof of harm is required to participate.
The final amount depends on the number of valid claims submitted. If fewer than half of eligible individuals file claims, the base fund will be distributed and the remainder donated to charitable organizations.
If more than half submit claims, the fund increases by $1,711.93 per additional person. There is a total cap of $2,225,000 for the settlement.
