State Farm will begin distributing the largest dividend in its 103-year history.

The distribution will benefit policies covering more than 49 million vehicles, although not every policyholder will receive the same amount.

  • Why it matters: This is not a refund that customers need to request by filing a claim. Those who meet the requirements will be contacted directly by State Farm and may receive the money electronically or through a check sent by mail.

Who Qualifies for the State Farm Dividend Payout

The main eligibility requirement is tied to the policy the customer had during 2025, according to a company announcement.

Customers qualify if they had an eligible private passenger auto insurance policy issued by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company that was in effect at some point between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

In addition, the dividend calculated for the customer must be at least $10, which is the minimum amount established by the company to process a payment.

  • There is one important exclusion: Policies provided through a state-assigned risk program do not qualify for this dividend.

Payments Will Begin in Late Summer

State Farm said distribution will begin in late summer 2026, but that does not mean everyone will receive their money at the same time.

Payments will be issued in phases depending on the state where the policy is assigned. Because the process involves more than 49 million vehicles, the company expects the State Farm $5 billion dividend distribution to take several months to complete.

  • There is also no single check amount that will be the same for everyone. Individual payments will vary depending on each case.

State Farm explained that the dividend was made possible by its financial strength and because its 2025 insurance results were better than expected.
