Why Social Security Will Send Two SSI Payments in July and None on August 1

Millions of people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will see two deposits in their accounts during July 2026.
While this may cause confusion, the Social Security Administration (SSA) explains that it is not an extra payment or an increase in benefits.
Instead, the second deposit is August’s benefit paid in advance because of the official payment calendar. As a result, SSI recipients will not receive a new payment on August 1.
- Why it matters: This adjustment could affect the financial planning of thousands of Hispanic families who rely on SSI to cover essential expenses such as housing, food, medications, and utilities.
Who Will Receive Two SSI Benefit Payments in July?
The change applies only to recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a federal program administered by the SSA for older adults, children and adults with disabilities, and individuals with limited income and resources.

According to the official SSI payment schedule July 2026, the payment dates are:
- July 1, 2026: Regular benefit payment for the month of July (already issued).
- July 31, 2026: Advance payment for the August benefit.
Although beneficiaries will receive two deposits during the same month, their annual benefit amount does not change, and the second payment is not an additional benefit.
Why There Will Be No SSI Payment on August 1
The Social Security Administration explains that the early payment is solely due to the calendar.
Because August 1, 2026, falls on a Saturday, the agency issues the payment on the last business day before the weekend to ensure beneficiaries have timely access to their funds.
This procedure is part of the SSA’s standard policy whenever a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday.
In other words, the July 31 deposit completely replaces the August 1 payment, so recipients should not expect another transfer on August 1.
Maximum SSI Benefit Amounts for 2026
Following last year’s 2.8% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), the maximum SSI benefits for 2026 are:
- Up to $994 per month for an eligible individual.
- Up to $1,491 per month for an eligible couple.

However, the amount each recipient receives may vary because the SSA considers factors such as income, financial resources, and any other benefits the individual may receive.
For that reason, not all beneficiaries qualify for the maximum monthly payment.

How to Verify Your Advance SSI Payment and Avoid Confusion
The SSA recommends checking your My Social Security account, where beneficiaries can:
- Review official payment dates.
- Confirm the amount of their upcoming benefit.
- View their payment history.
- Update banking or contact information.
The agency also reminds beneficiaries to verify benefit information only through official SSA channels to avoid scams and misinformation that frequently circulate on social media.
Finally, the SSA advises recipients to budget the July 31 deposit carefully, since it represents August’s SSI benefit, and no additional payment will be issued at the beginning of August.
