The young content creator, just 17 years old, died this past August 8 while taking a helicopter sightseeing tour in Rio de Janeiro.

According to reports from local media outlets such as CNN Brasil and g1, the aircraft crashed in a wooded area near the Vista Chinesa lookout point in Tijuca National Park.

Her mother, 37-year-old Wendy Manrique; her grandmother, 59-year-old Rocio Cubillos; and the aircraft’s pilot, Alessandro Rocha, also died in the crash.

The family was vacationing in Brazil to celebrate the 15th birthday of one of its members.

According to the newspaper O Globo, the group had booked a sightseeing package with the Voo Rio Panorâmico agency to admire the iconic Christ the Redeemer from above.

Because the helicopter had only four seats, the passengers were divided into two different groups. Sofía, her mother, and her grandmother boarded the first flight at around 11:00 a.m., while the rest of the family waited on the ground.

The Crash and Rescue Response

After taking off, the Robinson R44 aircraft collided with the mountainside, causing a major forest fire that spread rapidly.

According to information published by People en Español and g1, the Fire Department and specialized military personnel arrived at the scene to contain the flames amid extremely rugged terrain.

The relatives waiting at the hangar learned of the tragedy through local news reports and online alerts. The young woman’s uncle, Víctor Manrique, expressed his grief to the media and described the desperation of receiving no response from his loved ones after takeoff.
