A company based in Cerritos, California, announced the voluntary recall of multiple specialty beverages after a possible risk of Salmonella contamination was detected, a bacterium that can cause serious infections in certain groups of the population.

The measure was adopted after the company was notified by one of its suppliers about a specific batch of nonfat dry milk that tested positive during routine testing.

Following this warning, the manufacturer decided to immediately suspend distribution of the potentially affected products while cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA.

So far, no illnesses linked to these items have been reported, but the recall remains a preventive action to protect public health.

Risks Associated With Salmonella

Salmonella is a microorganism that can cause infections ranging from mild to severe, especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Among the most common symptoms are fever, diarrhea — which in some cases can be bloody — nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. These symptoms usually appear a few hours or days after consuming a contaminated product.

The recalled items include various bases and powders used to prepare beverages such as matcha green tea, taro, caramel latte, coconut, horchata, white chocolate, milk tea, and smoothie mixes, among others.

The Salmonella drink recall also includes products sold under different brands that were distributed mainly to coffee shops, restaurants, and through direct delivery to establishments in multiple states across the country.

Distribution covered areas such as California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Georgia, and others, exceeding more than two dozen states affected by the measure.

Consumers can identify the affected products by checking the lot codes printed on the back of the package, along with the best-by dates listed on each item.

Recommendations for Consumers and Businesses

The company urged anyone who purchased products included in the recall list not to consume them and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

It also made a customer service phone line available to answer questions related to the affected items and the return process.

The batch of the implicated ingredient was quarantined, and the company said it will continue cooperating with regulatory authorities as the investigation into the source of the possible contamination moves forward.
