Popular Shampoo Recalled in the United States and Canada Over Possible Bacterial Contamination

Oribe shampoo recall. Kao USA has announced a voluntary recall of several batches of an Oribe shampoo after detecting the presence of bacteria during routine quality control testing.
The recall applies only to specific bottles of Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo.
The affected products were distributed in both the United States and Canada.
The company is urging consumers to check the lot codes on their bottles and immediately stop using any products included in the Oribe shampoo recall.
The bacteria poses a greater risk to vulnerable individuals

Kao USA said the bacteria detected is Pluralibacter gergoviae, a microorganism that generally poses a low risk to healthy individuals.
However, the company warned that people with weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to developing an infection.

For that reason, Kao USA recommends discontinuing use of any product included in the affected lots.
The investigation remains ongoing to determine the full scope of the issue and confirm whether additional units may be affected.
These are the products included in the shampoo recall
The Oribe shampoo recall involves Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo in 8.5-ounce and 33.8-ounce bottles.
According to the company, the products were manufactured between February 21 and February 26, 2026.
The affected lot code for the 8.5-ounce bottle is YR010556, while the 33.8-ounce bottles are identified by lot codes YR010566 and YR010576.
Kao USA stated that consumers can find the lot codes printed in black on the bottom of the bottles, each beginning with the prefix «YR.»
Company is working with the FDA to remove the product
Kao USA said it is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to remove the affected lots from the distribution chain.
The company also asked retailers, distributors, and salons to stop selling or using the affected products and return them for proper disposal.
«In Kao USA, the safety of our products and consumers is our highest priority,» the company said while explaining the actions it has taken following the discovery of the issue.
