What Happened

Héctor Ramírez Aldaco, 52, died on Friday after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters near the South Yamhill River in Oregon.

According to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, the Amity resident drove past road-closure warning signs on Southwest Dejong Road and entered a section covered by water.

A 911 caller around 7:40 a.m. reported seeing the strong current push the vehicle toward the river.

According to the witness, only one person was seen exiting the car before it was completely overtaken by the water.

The Rescue Attempt

Following the emergency call, multiple rescue teams responded immediately.

Search efforts included the use of aerial technology to scan the area.

With the help of a drone, rescuers located the man, but he had already died by the time he was found.

The sheriff’s office did not specify the exact time the body was recovered later that same Friday.

The incident was classified as an accidental death related to flooding conditions in the area.

The Message of Héctor Ramírez Aldaco’s Family

The man’s identity was later confirmed through a GoFundMe page created by his family, which explains their goal of returning his body to Mexico.

On the platform, Héctor Ramírez Aldaco’s youngest daughter, Rosa, shared a message reflecting the family’s pain. The statement, reproduced verbatim and translated into English, reads:

“My name is Rosa, the youngest daughter of Héctor Ramírez Aldaco. My dad was the most loving father and grandfather. My dad passed away today after going through a flooded road and, sadly, drowned while trying to reach land. We are asking for your help to send him to Guanajuato, Mexico, where he is from. Any help is appreciated. God bless you. Please, no negative comments—this is the worst pain we have ever experienced.”

The family explained that their wish is to say goodbye to him in Guanajuato, his hometown.

Authorities’ Warning

After the accident, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office reiterated an urgent warning to drivers to respect road signs and avoid flooded areas.

In its official statement, translated verbatim, the agency said:

“We are asking people to never drive through high water and to obey all signage and traffic control devices related to flooded areas.”
