“Betrayal” of Univision? Lili Estefan’s Daughter Joins Telemundo as a Reporter and Her Mom Reacts

- Lina Luaces, Lili Estefan’s daughter, joins Telemundo and debuts as a guest reporter.
- Lili Estefan reacts from Univision.
- She wants to build a career of her own.
Lina Luaces, Lili Estefan’s daughter, is beginning an unexpected chapter in television with Telemundo, a rival network to Univision, where her famous mother has spent decades building her career as co-host of El Gordo y la Flaca.
However, far from showing any signs of a family dispute over her move to the competition, Lili publicly showed her support.
As can be seen, the Cuban TV personality reacted to the announcement posted by En casa con Telemundo by leaving several red heart emojis.
Lina’s arrival was not presented as a permanent hiring either. According to the announcement cited by People en Español, the young woman appeared this Monday as a guest reporter on the show hosted by Carlos Adyan, Aleyda Ortiz and other network personalities.
“Lina Luaces arrives this Monday as a guest reporter with a mission: to bring us interviews, confessions and unforgettable moments,” En casa con Telemundo announced on Instagram.
Lina Luaces Telemundo reporter: From Miss Universe Cuba to Telemundo Reporter

Her television debut comes immediately after Lina handed over the Miss Universe Cuba crown. At 24, the model and entrepreneur hopes to use that experience to open up new professional opportunities, including her new role as a Telemundo reporter.
People en Español reported that Luaces had already revealed some of her plans following the pageant.
Her priority will be returning to her Economics studies, although she will remain involved in modeling and entertainment while developing a project whose details she is still keeping under wraps.
“I think I already had an incredible foundation. I had my platform in the American market, and now I can continue in both markets because I speak Spanish and English,” Lina explained to the publication.

Hours after the announcement, Lina Luaces made her debut as a guest reporter on En casa con Telemundo with a segment dedicated to fall fashion trends. In the video posted by the show’s official account, the young woman presented some of the celebrity looks currently setting trends and shared style recommendations with viewers.
Although Lina received numerous messages of support because it was one of her first experiences in front of the cameras, criticism also emerged over the way she spoke and questions about how she landed the opportunity. “She talks like a robot,” “She talks in slow motion,” and “Why does she speak so slowly?” some users wrote. Others felt she still needs more on-camera training and commented that her delivery came across as being “without emphasis or proper diction.”
The criticism also extended to her famous family. Some users suggested, without providing evidence, that her opportunity on the show may have been facilitated by her family connections. “Try not to make the connections so obvious,” “Wow, that’s what having influential connections can do,” and “She needs training from her mother” were among the comments posted. However, others defended Lina and pointed out that it was her first appearance, saying that “she did very well” and could improve with more practice.
Among the positive messages, some people also celebrated the improvement in her Spanish and asked to see her in more segments on the program. “It’s her first day. Wishing her lots of success,” “Bravo, Lina, you’re doing great,” and “More segments with Lina, please” were some of the favorable reactions accompanying her debut as a Telemundo reporter.
Lina Luaces Does Not Want to Be “the Next Lili Estefan”

Although she is now entering the same field in which her mother has built a successful career, Lina has been emphatic that she does not intend to become a copy of Lili Estefan or permanently depend on her last name.
“This year I realized that I don’t have to be like them: I can write my own story and be the first Lina Luaces,” she said in an interview with People en Español.
The young woman also directly mentioned other members of her famous family. “I don’t have to be the next Lili Estefan, the next Emilio or the next Gloria Estefan,” she said.
For Lina, acknowledging her family’s legacy does not mean living in their shadow. She explained that she previously felt embarrassed when people identified her only as “someone’s daughter,” but her perspective changed following her experience as Miss Universe Cuba.

Lili’s reaction is particularly significant because her daughter is beginning this television experience at Telemundo rather than Univision. So far, the sources provided have not reported any displeasure from the TV host over that decision.
On the contrary, the hearts she left on the post publicly demonstrate her support for Lina. Miss Universe Fátima Bosch also celebrated the news and wrote: “Beautiful, you always shine.”

According to People en Español and RC Noticias, Lina plans to continue her studies, work in modeling and entertainment, and use her command of Spanish and English to develop her career in both the U.S. and Latino markets.
Her arrival at Telemundo therefore represents another step after closing the Miss Universe Cuba chapter. And although she will inevitably continue to be compared with Lili Estefan, Lina is clear about what she wants her next goal to be: building a career and a name of her own.
