FIFA has rejected the possibility of Iran’s national team playing its 2026 World Cup matches in Mexico. The organization confirmed that it does not plan to modify the established host venues.

“The schedule remains unchanged,” FIFA stated, emphasizing that all teams must compete according to what was announced on December 6, 2025.

The Iranian government had raised doubts about its participation due to tensions with the United States and Israel.

Mexico Expressed Willingness

Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed openness to hosting Iran’s matches in Mexico. However, she made it clear that the final decision rests entirely with FIFA.

World Cup 2026 Group G Already Set

Iran has been placed in Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand.

Their matches are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle.
