Arrests and Tension During ICE Protest in Illinois

The night of Saturday, October 18, ended with a large police operation near the ICE detention center in Broadview, west of Chicago.
A protest against U.S. immigration policies escalated into clashes with the Illinois State Police (ISP), resulting in several demonstrators being detained.
Protest Against ICE Immigration Detentions
The demonstration began at sunset outside the facilities of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), where dozens of people gathered with banners and chants demanding the closure of the center and an end to deportations.
Organizers denounced the treatment of migrants held under federal custody and called for greater transparency in detention procedures.
According to witnesses and local outlets such as Fox 32 Chicago, the atmosphere remained peaceful during the first moments, but as the number of participants and police presence increased, tension grew.
Protesters partially occupied one of the building’s entrances and temporarily blocked the adjacent street, prompting intervention by State Police.

Videos shared on social media — particularly by user @Lancevideos — captured the moment when ISP officers declared the protest an “unlawful assembly” through loudspeakers.
Minutes later, officers advanced in formation with wooden batons, ordering protesters to disperse.
In the footage, participants can be heard chanting against ICE and demanding respect for freedom of expression while attempting to hold their ground.
However, the police line advanced, leading to the arrest of several demonstrators, though the total number of arrests has not been officially confirmed.

Some witnesses criticized the police response, calling the dispersal “excessive,” while others stated that authorities acted firmly but without direct violence.
As of this report, Illinois authorities had not released an official statement regarding the arrests or potential charges.
The Broadview incident adds to a series of demonstrations nationwide opposing federal immigration policies amid rising social tension and renewed calls to reform the ICE detention system.
