Martin’s life and his family’s life took an abrupt turn on what had been a normal night heading home before being confronted by ICE in Texas.

After finishing his work shift, Martin was traveling with his nephew when they made a brief stop to get gas, just minutes from their home.

It was at that gas station, under fluorescent lights and during what seemed like the last errand of the day, where agents from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office detained them.

Within minutes, Martin and his nephew were taken into custody. The moment marked the beginning of a separation that now keeps the family in constant anguish.

No Contact and No Answers

ICE arrest at gas station TexasMartin’s son, a U.S. citizen, immediately traveled to Galveston hoping to see his father and obtain information.

However, he was turned away and was unable to make contact with him.

Since then, Martin has been transferred to an ICE detention center in Houston.

The family has not heard from him since the last moment they saw him before his detention.

The lack of communication has intensified the uncertainty and fear surrounding his current situation and immediate future.

More Than Two Decades Building a Life Before ICE Detention

Martin has lived and worked in the Houston metropolitan area for more than 23 years.

Since arriving in the United States, he worked in construction and painting, often holding double shifts, with one clear goal: supporting his family.

Throughout all those years, he did not accumulate any criminal record.

His daily routine revolved around work, constant effort, and the responsibility of being a provider.

Today, that stability was abruptly shattered.

The Risk of Deportation With No Destination

Martin now faces deportation proceedings to Mexico, a country where he has not lived for more than two decades.

If his removal is carried out, he would have no place to go and no support network waiting for him.

For his family, the impact is twofold: physical separation and the loss of their sole source of income.

The detention left them without a father and husband at home, and also without the financial means to cover basic necessities.

For this reason, the family has organized a fundraising campaign.
