From MDO to the King of Fragrances: Daniel René Speaks About Everything, From His Husband to His Ex Adolfo Aguilar

Success and reinvention can take unexpected paths. Daniel René, who rose to international fame as one of the most important young voices in Latin pop in the 1990s with MDO, has become, in 2026, one of the most influential figures in global live commerce.
After winning the 2026 Live Creator Impact Award, the artist proved his overwhelming ability to connect with audiences through the launch of his seventh personal-brand fragrance, “Midnight Sin,” reaching the No. 4 spot in global sales on TikTok Shop and selling out an initial run of 30,000 units.
The digital phenomenon unfolded during a livestream that was scheduled to last 12 hours, but the artist had to end it after 8.5 hours because he completely ran out of inventory.
During the live event, Daniel René sold more than 4,600 units, reaching sales peaks of between 100 and 150 perfumes in less than 10 seconds, breaking his own previous record. “I wasn’t expecting this record. Today more than ever, with the current economic situation, it’s hard to get people to buy. But my community has shown incredible loyalty, and the most important thing is that they genuinely like the product,” he said emotionally about the launch, created in collaboration with the fragrance house Paris Corner, which already has a presence in international markets such as Europe, South Africa, and Dubai.
The Unfiltered Critic Behind “The Bitch of Fragrance”: Daniel René Menudo MDO

When journalist Alonso Bañuelas asked how someone goes from being a teen idol to the Hispanic monarch of fragrances, the singer rejected traditional titles with his characteristic sense of humor:
“I don’t want the title of king or queen of anything. I don’t have blue blood here; you know what I have? Gay blood. Don’t call me the king or queen of fragrances; call me ‘The Bitch of Fragrance,’ because I have such a strong personality and my reviews are so blunt that there are companies that hate me because they don’t understand that it’s simply my opinion and I’m not trying to be mean. If I don’t like something, I’m going to say it, and if I like it, I’ll say that too.”
Daniel René attributes his huge success on social media to the honesty of his reviews, something that sets him apart from other content creators. He said that his financial stability after 30 years in music gives him the freedom not to have to please any multinational company:
“Many creators are worried about making money and staying on good terms with every fragrance company. Since I don’t need one thing or the other to put food on the table for my family and myself, I’m not so worried about staying on good terms with brands. I give my opinion on the fragrance; if I liked it, I liked it, and if I didn’t like it, I’ll say that too. If you, as the owner of a fragrance company, can’t accept that not everyone is going to love every product you make, well, that’s your problem.”
Daniel René’s Passion for Fragrances

His passion for scents began in childhood within his family, where his parents taught him the importance of smelling good:
“Mom and Dad always raised us to be kids who left the house freshly showered, with our hair done, clean shoes, clean clothes, and smelling good. Whether you wore baby violet water or a Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren fragrance, cheap or expensive, put something on so you smell good for the rest of the day, so that when you greet someone and they hug you, you don’t smell bad. Besides, here in Miami it’s so hot that you sweat, and if you’re outside in the heat for an hour, you’re going to smell bad, so you have to wear a perfume strong enough to present yourself beautifully to the world.”
His Present: Marriage, Fulfillment, and His Relationship With Adolfo Aguilar

Beyond the stage and the millions of impressions on TikTok Shop, Daniel René is going through a period of complete fulfillment in his personal life. He is currently married and enjoying family stability where ghosts from the past have no place.
During the conversation, the “Ambroxan” performer spoke naturally about the media stir caused by his past relationship with Peruvian host Adolfo Aguilar, with whom he shared almost seven years of his life a decade and a half ago.
“Adolfo, my ex, is a wonderful human being. I love him; he’s like a brother to me, and he stays here at the house when he’s in Miami. My husband and he get along well; it’s the coolest thing in the world to see that it’s 7 in the morning and they go buy coffee and go shopping together. They’re super close, like brothers, and they get along really well. There’s nothing weird or anything like that.”
“Adolfo and I were friends before we were in a relationship. We were together for almost seven years, but that was 15 years ago. I was a kid when I was with him; Adolfo was 10 years older than me. I was 23 and he was 33. After Adolfo, I got into drugs, then I got clean and started looking for help. The essence of who I am, the love and affection, are still there. I even love his current partner with all my heart because he makes him happy, and in fact, Adolfo was at my wedding,” Daniel René revealed openly.

With 1.3 million Spotify streams for his song “Así soy yo,” the former Menudo MDO artist concluded by reaffirming the powerful moment he is living through in his music video: “I get naked in the video — you don’t see anything — but it’s just an example of where I am emotionally regarding the lyrics of the song: accepting myself 100% without the earrings, without the makeup, without the things, and without the clothes. I accept myself and love myself for the man I am today and the man who, little by little, every day, is becoming a better version of himself.”
Through his music, marriage, and growing his fragrance empire now through «Midnight Sin», the former MDO star continues proving that reinvention can be as powerful as fame itself.
