On the night of Thursday, July 16, the actress reportedly received the devastating phone call informing her of her son’s death.
Sources close to the family said Mauro had recently traveled to Barbados to attend a baseball game.

According to reports, Mauro had been suffering from severe pneumonia before his trip. His mother had reportedly urged him not to travel and instead remain at home to recover.

Mauro was born in Havana, Cuba, when Aylín Mujica was just 19 years old, during her first marriage to Cuban musician Osamu Menéndez. The actress has often described the birth of her first child as the event that completely changed her life and her understanding of unconditional love.
Rather than pursuing acting, Mauro built his own career in music under the stage name MAAHEZ.
He began studying piano, guitar, and drums at the age of four. In 2000, he moved to Mexico City to develop a music project with a band.
He later established himself as a DJ and music producer specializing in urban and house music, earning international recognition. His career included a Latin Grammy nomination alongside Panamanian artist Sech for the album 1 of 1. He also collaborated, remixed, and worked with internationally known artists including Pitbull, DJ Snake, J Balvin, Steve Aoki, Maluma, and Diplo.
In 2021, he signed with Insomniac Records, achieving notable success with the single «Tequila.»
