The Cessna 441 departed Anchorage Thursday morning and was headed to the Cape Newenham airport station, EFE reported.

According to ABC News, the Alaska plane crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time, west of the destination airport.

The key detail: Cape Newenham is located in a remote area of western Alaska and is home to a long-range radar installation.

Alaskan Command confirmed Thursday night that all eight people aboard the aircraft were killed.
